This Extra Large Triangular Caltagirone Holy Water Font, Madonna of the Goldfinch in Mother of Pearl, Gold and Lustre brings the devotion of Caltagirone's artisan ceramics into the home in its largest size, its triangular outline and its most precious finish: the composition is that of Raphael's Madonna of the Goldfinch, with the Madonna in a landscape with trees and a book in her hand and, in front of her, the Christ Child and the young Saint John passing the goldfinch to each other. The scene is hand-painted in brown tones on an antiqued ivory ground, with the halos and the neckline of the robe in gold; the scroll frame, the crown and the basin are enriched with applied beads in copper and gold lustre that change their reflections with the light.
