This Caltagirone Bummulu Malandrinu (Sicilian trick jug), Ornato Black Background, shaped and decorated by hand, is the traditional Sicilian jug: the drop-shaped body ends in a point at the top, with the handle on one side and a spout on the other, and it stands on a bell-shaped foot. On the glossy black ground, large acanthus leaves and volutes are painted in yellow, orange and ochre, with a crown of leaves around the point; the handle is yellow and the foot has a scroll frieze between thin yellow lines. It can be filled with water, wine or other drinks. It is 25 cm (9¾") tall.
